Services Provided Welcome to Waldo County General Hospital’s Speech Language Pathology department. We provide high quality evaluations, consultations and therapy for speech, language, voice and communication disorders. We offer therapy in a variety of settings, including our hospital, and clinic, extended care facilities, homes and through telepractice.
Services for adults include:
- diagnosis and treatment of swallowing difficulties using Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), video fluoroscopy, and clinical swallow assessments;
- state-of-the-art assessment and treatment of voice disorders using Digital Laryngeal Stroboscopy. Our clinicians are recognized nationally for their innovative and effective approaches in helping patients with hoarseness, chronic cough, aphonia, dysphonia, and vocal fatigue;
- assisting patients having paradoxical vocal fold movement (PVFM) manage their breathing difficulty;
- therapy services for all types of aphasia and dysarthria. We have been trained in several techniques to help Parkinson’s patients improve their overall vocal quality; and
- matching both low and high-tech augmentative communication systems with patients needing support using our clinicians’ strong backgrounds in this area.
All of the services are provided within a family systems approach. Our therapists spend considerable time offering information and strategies to help our patients become knowledgeable and independent communicators.
