Coaching Teachers and Parents

Jessica Wilbur, Jenn Whitcomb, & Nathan Curtis: Head Start Coaching TeamSpeech pathologists at Waldo County General Hospital have experience and expertise helping teachers in preschool and public school settings. We have information describing how we coach, called Response to Coaching. We have presented the results of our coaching process at ASHA's national conference.

Therapists utilize research-based coaching techniques to develop teacher instructional skills tailored specifically to the needs of children in the classroom.

Jenn coaches in real time with teacher and client.

Teacher coaching enables differentiated instruction to meet specific child Individual Education Plan (IEP) needs or to help support high performance Response to Intervention (RtI) classrooms required under federal law.

Our coaching style develops strong partnerships with teachers. We join in classroom activities to model activities, observe teaching practices and provide authentic coaching feedback.

We continue to develop innovative materials and protocols to support our students and teachers. Click here for additional information in our coaching approach with parents.

Jenn & Erica complete a consultation session with a teacher. Speech-language pathologists are available to provide additional evaluation, language literacy program support or consultation to families and educators throughout Maine. We have provided many workshops on how to utilize explicit embedded literacy activities within school routines. We also provide opportunities for teachers to build skills allowing them to independently differentiate instructional strategies for their students. We also provide coaching through speech telepractice services.
