Swallowing Treatment

Swallowing TreatmentAfter an evaluation for a swallowing disorder, the diagnosis and treatment recommendations are provided to your healthcare provider.

The Voice and Swallowing Center also offers complete swallowing treatment options including compensatory and positioning recommendations.

Treatment for swallowing disorders typically is completed successfully over a 6 to 8 week period.

Typically, therapy results in changes and improvements within the first few treatment sessions.

A course of treatment for a swallowing disorder might typically be five sessions*. An important part of intervention is the patient/family training and coaching that is provided.

Activities and exercises are provided for routine implementation at home and much of the progress made is dependent on how well follow-up at home is completed.

*Please note: Number of treatment sessions are typical estimates. Amount of treatment may vary based on individual patient needs. The Speech Pathologist will provide specific information about each individual treatment plan.

The Voice and Swallowing Center can be contacted by telephone at (207) 505-4409 or by email at [email protected]
